Woodland Prairie Rescue "Planting it Forward" by Elgin Green Drinks www.localgreenconnect.com/igd.html 10-10-10 October 2010 (for 3 weeks) Moving/Saving/Sharing the Prairie!!! With an abundance of Synergy "Planting it Forward" was a great Success. Over the course of 3 weeks the members of Elgin Green Drinks worked together on a very exciting project. Rescuing one of the most gorgeous Native Prairie/Woodlands I've ever seen. Owners Joe and Brenda have tended to this land for over 20 years and now when it comes time to build their dream home they are making sure they do not destroy an inch of it. They have milled all of the oaks that have been taken down into red gold and white oak wooden boards and beams to be used in construction of the new house. And we put together a workforce for 350.org to find homes for all the native plants they have meticulously tended for all these years. With the help of over 37 people from 3 counties we have able to relocate more than 350 native plants and some of the tree seedlings to many different towns surrounding Elgin: Elgin, Rolling Meadows, Hoffman Estates, Huntley, St. Charles, Algonquin, Crystal lake and lake County. Little pieces of Elgin are being spread throughout the area: Replanting Sites: 2- schools, a cemetery, 2-churches, a park district, a forest preserve, a newly restored nature center, supporting a creek bank in community park, seeding a trampled path and in many back and front yards replacing grass conserving water and reducing our carbon footprint. Many , Many Thanks to: Brenda, Joe, Kathy, Dale, Bridgee, Erin, Debbi, Pat, Kirsten, Kelly, Matt, Jason, Jack, and his wife, Jason, Theresa, Kirk, Mary, Mary Ellen, Joleen, Josh, Joan, Sue, Luree, Nick, Nicks Dad, Audre, Audres Son, Audres Husband, Jodie, Leslie, Sue, Maggie, Jack P., Dave, Additi and Ruth. This project was so inspiring to me. Just to see the ability we all have to connect with each other working side by side to create miracles for the environment. Thanks Especially to Brenda and Joe for caring enough and creating this movement. I look forward to many other projects like this one. Please contact us if your interested in connecting for a synergy, purpose, project or collaboration. kathleen@localgreenconnect.com
